Worker Automation Welding Process

There are numerous different ways to weld metals together, such as MIG, TIG, SMAW, FCAW, SAW, PAW and others, each with their own applications, benefits, and downsides.  For our purposes, the processes Worker Automation uses most often in our cells are MIG, TIG, and PAW.

 

MIG

  • Metal Inert Gas, also known as GMAW or Gas Metal Arc Welding
  • MIG welding uses a consumable welding wire as an electrode and filler metal
  • Shielding gases used: argon, helium, carbon dioxide, and oxygen

TIG

  • Tungsten Inert Gas welding also known as GTAW or Gas Tungsten Arc Welding
  • TIG welding uses a non-consumable tungsten electrode to generate an arc
  • Shielding gases used: argon, helium, hydrogen, and nitrogen
  • Can be used with or without filler metal to make welds depending on application

MIG Advantages:
