Detection first! The SCARA public laboratory for the whole industry is coming


In recent years, domestic SCARA robots have gradually gained a place in 3C electronics, white goods, new energy and other fields. However, the lack of industry standards is becoming a flood of beasts, making unqualified products with insufficient precision and speed into the market. How to establish a set of effective detection methods for SCARA robots to promote the standardization of the industry?

In 2017, Shenzhen ADTECH Co., Ltd. undertook the high-precision SCARA engineering laboratory of the Shenzhen Municipal Government. It has been in operation for more than a year and has received much attention from the industry. At the 2018 High-tech Robots Annual Meeting on December 18th, Mr. Wangliang the marketing director of ADTECH made a topic sharing on “Doing SCARA, Testing First” introducing the relevant situation of the laboratory to the outside world at the first time and putting forward the importance of establishing industry standards from the pain point of the SCARA industry.


At present, SCARA robots have blossomed like flowers on the market, and it has been designed to meet different sub-divisions through directed design. However, SCARA robot has no industry standard unlike the six-joint industrial robot. In Mr. Wangliang's view, the current situation has triggered a series of industry pain points.

First of all, due to the lack of standards and norms, unqualified SCARA robots come into the market and make many people misunderstand that : "The level of domestic SCARA robots are not high enough. Some are industrial waste,  only the body, control system, plus a bunch of parts?!" It is time for the industry to jointly establish norms and standards to clarify the misconceptions of domestic robots.

The second pain point is that there is lack of a place to solve the verification of the pre-automation scheme currently before a system integration project going to the customer site and being demonstrated and verified by many programs. If there was a robot engineering lab, these experimental arguments could be completed in it and mature products could be delivered to customers getting a better user experience.

In addition, the details determine success or failure, and the verification of structural components is also important. For the end tool, taking the example of completing  loading & unloading and picking & placing, a jaw cylinder, a flexible gripper or a suction cup should be used? These all need to be supported by a large amount of experimental data to give users the most reasonable advice. If the end tool is chosen unreasonably, it often causes loss of precision.

Not a radius of no rules, and no standards are difficult to develop. Based on this, the establishment of Shenzhen High-precision SCARA Engineering Laboratory is at the right time.

According to Mr. Wang Liang, the laboratory provides the following four types of experiments for the industry:

The ontology detection and analysis experiment: because there is no SCARA standard, currently implements the national standard GB/T 12642-2013 of the six joints;

Component demonstration analysis experiments: mainly for the stability, reliability analysis experiments of the reducer, screw spline, motor, machine vision, cable, connectors, jaws, suction cups and other components;

The project plan demonstration experiment: can make program demonstration for different application scenarios and avoid risks in project implementation;

The manufacturing process analysis experiment: combined with the manufacturing enterprise to explore the traditional manufacturing process and transform into the process of robot application.

In order to give the participants an intuitive introduction, Mr. Wangliang also shared three lab cases, such as core component demonstration, performance analysis experiment, and application process experiment. We will take two to look at it.

The experiment of 30025 timely steady-state stop and dynamic positoning deviation: the robot has a difficult technical indicator called high-speed steady-stop time, which leads to low speed when require accuracy in many application scenarios. How to shorten the high speed stabilization time of SCARA? How to reduce the positioning deviation during a very small CT time? These details may determine whether the product can enter the industry Top3.

The experiment of following circular dynamic trajectory. Dynamic grabbing: whether it is a straight production line or an arc, the robot can directly track and grab dynamically when the line body is working, which can double the tempo efficiency of the entire production & grab.

It is understood that the laboratory has a complete set of analysis and detection methods for robot components including the whole after the operation of more than one year, which can provide reliability certification, detection analysis,  project demonstration, technical study and many other services.

Mr. Wangliang emphasized that this laboratory belongs to the third-party public platform led by the government. It is mainly to help the robot industry with the performance research & analysis and optimization improvement on the whole industrial chain to improve the overall level of SCARA robots in Shenzhen and even the whole country, and jointly establish industry standards. “Welcome friends of doing SCARA products and those from upstream and downstream companies to participate, developing and improving together. Let our domestic robots go out and learn from Huawei, becoming world-class.”

In addition, on the evening of December 18th, the winners of the 2018 High-tech Golden Globe Awards were also announced. Shenzhen ADTECH Co., Ltd. was awarded the Golden Global Award of "Robot Body of Good Product - SCARA".
